Local musician Belinda O’Hooley is a pianist, singer and songwriter from the Colne Valley. She’s also an actor, recently appearing as DCS Liz Thornton in the BAFTA-winning TV drama Happy Valley.

Belinda is best known as one half of O’Hooley & Tidow with her wife Heidi Tidow. Together they’ve been nominated four times for the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, and wrote the theme song for the BBC/HBO series Gentleman Jack.

Rooted in the Colne Valley, Belinda has written a brand-new song inspired by Slawit and the Parade — a real labour of love celebrating a place and tradition close to her heart. Expect something a little bit different, with her trademark left-field twist.

“Exquisite” ★★★★★ – The Guardian

About the Project

Slawit SHOP! is a community-led heritage project celebrating 100 years of the Carr Lane Parade shops in Slaithwaite — a row of eight shops that have been at the heart of village life for a century.

Inspired by the 40th anniversary of the Moonraking Festival in 2025, when Carr Lane Parade was lit up as part of the celebrations, the project set out to explore a parade of shops and stories: the people, trades and memories that have shaped this unique place since it was built in the 1920s.
